چکیده

Two fast trigger algorithms based on 3 innermost hits in the CMS Inner Tracker are presented. One of the algorithms will be applied at LHC low luminosity to select B decay channels. Performance of the algorithm is demonstrated for the decay channel B s → D − s + π . The second algorithm will be used to select τ -jets at LHC high luminosity.

Tracking in the trigger: from the CDF experience to CMS upgrade

Precise tracking information in the online selection of interesting physics events is extremely beneficial at hadron colliders. The CDF experiment at the Tevatron, has shown for the first time the impact of the tracking in triggers, allowing to achieve unprecedented precision in B-physics measurements. The CMS experiment at LHC will largely make use of tracking information at high level trigger...

APV logic simulations

The amount of data in the CMS inner tracker system at the LHC interaction rate is so large that it cannot be read out at each bunch crossing. A pipeline memory is then needed to store the data at the front–end level until a Level 1 Trigger accept signal marks the interesting data which will then be read out. Due to the random arrival of triggers with a maximum average rate of 100kHz a queue may...

Design process of the CMS Silicon Tracker for Super-LHC

Following an expected increase of the LHC luminosity beyond its design value of 1034 cm−2s−1 the CMS collaboration is planning for a series of upgrades on the experimental apparatus. In particular the silicon tracker should undergo two major upgrades to cope with the increased luminosity of the collider. The first intervention (Phase I) concerns a replacement of the pixel system, the rest of th...

on CMS information server CMS NOTE 1998 / 077 The Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment

This note describes a systematic study of the CMS tracker performance. It aims to evaluate the contribution of different factors, like the spatial resolution of the sensitive elements and the amount of material in the tracker, that affect the track finding efficiency and track parameter resolutions achievable with the CMS tracker. Layout V3 is studied with a detailed simulation of the tracker r...

The Fast Tracker Processor for Hadron Collider Triggers

Perspectives for precise and fast track reconstruction in future hadron collider experiments are addressed. We discuss the feasibility of a pipelined highly parallel processor dedicated to the implementation of a very fast tracking algorithm. The algorithm is based on the use of a large bank of pre-stored combinations of trajectory points, called patterns, for extremely complex tracking systems...
